Customer Service and Communication

Basic methods of verbal and non-verbal communication are presented and practiced. Strategies for eliminating communication barriers are described.

Respect, privacy, and dealing with a diverse patient population are discussed along with techniques to deal with difficult customers. Role-playing and case studies are employed.

Business Communications – Level 1

Students learn a variety of effective communication methods for the modern business office. Topics include written and oral communications, grammar, spelling and the communication process.

Business Communications – Level 2

Using the ethics and etiquette taught in the Level 1 module, students apply these to further communication strategies in businesses. Students learn to write routine messages using “positive/negative/positive sandwiches.” Students learn to use invaluable techniques and methods for writing persuasively while understanding the difference between persuasive and demanding language.

Students learn the way to plan and produce effective reports and proposals, and to develop an interesting and effective business presentation. Students must have MS Word Level 2 skills to produce effective and well sourced reports. Prerequisite B130.

Office Procedures

Students examine the necessities required for operating a smooth and efficient office environment. Topics covered include basic filing techniques, telecommunications, time management and using general office equipment.
