Community Support Certificate PBLMT Program

This 17 + 6-week Community Support Worker Diploma Training will provide unemployed and underemployed individuals (immigrants, women, PWDs, older workers, etc.) with occupational skills training, on-the-job training, employment assistance services, and financial support to secure sustainable employment.

A career in the Community Support Certificate PBLMT Program

The Community Support Worker Diploma Training Program is a 17+6 weeks practicum Project Based Labour Market Training (PBLMT). The participants will learn com- munity support worker professional activities. This program is designed to prepare you to be employment ready in the community support sector as it is a rapidly growing industry in BC.

BC, Canada V3T 4B2) + Online

Training Information:

Community Support Worker Diploma Training Program is a 100% government-funded free, group-based full-time program consisting of:

  • 16 weeks of virtual and in-person occupational skills training
  • 1 week of safety training
  • 6 weeks of work experience with local employers
  • 1 week of job support

  • Community Support Worker Diploma
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Pandemic Awareness
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1
  • Privacy and Information Sharing
  • Mental Health First Aid Canada Basic/standard training
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST)
  • Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Referred by a WorkBC Centre with confirmation
  • Currently receiving Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits or have had an EI benefit within the previous 60 months (reach back)or have earned more than $2,000 in insurable earnings and have paid Employee EI premiums on those earnings in at least 5 of the last 10 years (Note: the 5 years do not have to be consecutive years)
  • Either unemployed or precariously employed (less than 20 hours a week) 
  • Currently a resident of British Columbia
  • Possesses either a Permanent Residency, or Canadian Citizenship, or Refugee with Protected Person status (court decision)
  • BCEA PWD Clients are also eligible

College Pre-requisites:

  • High School Diploma
  • English Language Proficiency at Grade 10 level or English Language Assessment (IELTS 6 or equivalent)
