Education Requirements

Grade 12 / GED or mature student status

English Proficiency

Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through prior education in English at grade 10 level or higher or through an English language assessment test (IELTS 6 or equivalent).

Course Content

Business Communications 1

Students will learn a variety of effective Communication methods for the modern business office. Topics include written communications, forms of grammar in the writing process, outlining, business letter writing and collaborative writing. The student will be rounded out in a broad sense and be able to select the proper method when required.

Word Level 1

This course teaches trainees how to create and edit documents, save, open and close documents, apply formatting options, set tabs and indents, change the view mode, manipulate the text using features such as copy/paste, and preview/print documents. This module aims to teach the information worker how to work with different types of documents using a variety of core and intermediate features to create and format business documents such as letters, forms, and newsletters.

Excel 1

This module has been designed to reinforce workforce skills. Trainees learn to create and edit professional-looking spreadsheets for a variety of purposes and situations. Trainees work on real-world problems like the ones they will encounter in the workplace ensuring they are ready for real professional challenges.

PowerPoint 1

Students will explore the PowerPoint environment and create a new presentation. They will learn to format text on slides to enhance clarity, enhance the visual appeal, add graphical objects and videos to a presentation and modify them. Students will also be able to add tables and charts to a presentation to present data in a structured form.

File Management

This module emphasizes mastering the foundational skills needed to continue with future computer use. The class combines hardware and software discussions along with hands-on work that familiarize participants with the basic skills required to do day-to-day functions on a computer requiring appropriate document storage.

Customer Service

Students will learn a variety of effective Communication methods for the modern business office. Keyboarding

This module is intended to provide student with the ability to safely navigate/browse the internet, create effective keyword searches, and use webmail clients. It teaches the students to understand some of the concepts and terms associated with using the Internet and to appreciate some online security considerations.

Introduction to Computers

The first component of this course is designed to introduce students to basic computer literacy through familiarization with the components that make up a computer. Students will also look at the Windows operating system to learn how to manage a computer on a regular basis. This course is also designed to introduce students to considerations for living online. Students will look at what the Internet is and how e-mail has made a huge impact on communicating with others, as well as look at how to find information on the Internet and avoid risk to personal security while online.

Office Procedures

Students will examine the necessities required for operating a smooth and efficient office environment. Topics covered include basic filing techniques, telecommunications, time management and organizational use of general office equipment.

Outlook

This module provides trainees with the basic skills they need to start using Microsoft Outlook to manage their email communications, calendar events, contact information, tasks, and notes.

Success Strategies

This module will introduce students to the skills and insights that will help them to get the best out of this and any other learning experience, and make successful transitions into their chosen career and maximize potential in life. They will be exposed to tools and techniques that will enhance their understanding of themselves, including; skills and qualities, interests and values and how they learn.

Employment Strategies

This module will introduce students to the skills and insights that will help them to undertake effective job research and job search activities, create effective resumes and cover letters and develop confident interviewing skills. It also provides useful guidance on professional practice and how to make a positive impression in the first 90-days of the job and beyond.

Duration
