Night Rating

Some of the most enjoyable and relaxing flying happens after the sun goes down. There is nothing like watching the sunset and the ground light-up with twinkling lights from above. A Night Rating is a great extension to the skills learned in obtaining a Private Licence and opens a door to a new set of possibilities.

The Night Rating allows you to fly and carry passengers at night in all single/multi engine aircraft that are classified as non-high performance during night hours under Visual Flight Rules and maintaining Visual Meteorological Conditions.

Training Overview

The Night Rating program is separated into two paths: ground instruction and flight training. we will furnish you with the required background knowledge, skill, and understanding to successfully meet Transport Canada requirements for the rating. There is no formal Ground school for this program

AGE

Applicant must be a minimum of 17 years of age.

Medical Fitness

Category 1 or 3 medical are the minimum requirements for Night Rating endorsement.
All pilots are required to have a Medical Certificate. Students seeking careers as Commercial Pilots should obtain a Category 1 Medical Certificate.

Private Pilot Licence

The candidate must hold a valid Private Pilot Licence.

Flight Training

Flight training is separated into dual instruction and solo practice.

Flight Training – Dual

Flight with a flight instructor. During dual flight student will be introduced to Night flying. Once a level of skill and competence has been reached student will fly night solo flight in the aircraft.

Student must complete a minimum of 20 hours of total flight hours, which include:

5 hours dual night flight time including 2 hours of cross-country flight time.

10 hours dual instrument time, a maximum of 5 hours of which may be instrument ground time 5 hours training Private Pilot Licence already received during training); and,

Complete a qualifying flight by demonstrating the level of skill specified in the Flight Instructor Guide.

Flight Training – Solo

5 hours solo night flight time including 10 take-offs, circuits and landings.

The cost is based on the Cessna 172 Skyhawk.

Fuel surcharges will apply on top of these hourly rates. Prices are subject to change, and taxes are applied where applicable.

Duration

Training is at the student’s pace and convenience and can start any time. The course will take 1 week if full time and 3 weeks if part time.

Graduation

Private Pilot Licence

The candidate must hold a valid Private Pilot Licence.

Night Rating

There is no flight test or written exam are required. Candidates must meet the skill requirements and Complete a qualifying flight by demonstrating the level of skill specified in the Flight Instructor Guide.
